Young Writers Workshops
When writing is alive, it’s magical.
Good writers need certain tools – perhaps the most important of which is a supportive environment to experiment and learn. Essay House workshops offer young writers the opportunity to find their voices in a fun, informal setting.
Our Young Writers Workshops are designed for specific age groups, middle school through college. Workshop leaders are trained in the Amherst Writers Method (AWA Method) and we focus on the creative process (rather than spelling or grammar), appealing to kids who love to write as well as to those who have lost their writing mojo somewhere along the line.
Workshops typically consist of 5 weekly sessions of 90 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the size of the group. Groups are kept small (5-8 kids) and our time together is salon style -- writing to prompts, sharing if we feel comfortable, talking about the writing process, having some snacks, stretching our minds and sometimes our bodies. Mostly, we will build a community where the writers’ creativity can flourish.
The 5-week session is $300 per child. Notebooks and snacks provided!

YOUNG ESSAYISTS WORKSHOPS
The essay is a flexible form for all kinds of self expression -- for developing ideas and perspectives, for taking on the world and seeing what you make of it. Our Young Essayists Workshop offers young writers a chance to explore this form and write about things that matter to them. We begin with prompts and then help young writers develop their writing as far as they want it to go, from free-writing to draft to fully-fledged essay, as they choose. Contact us to inquire about upcoming workshop dates.
Meanwhile, we also offer a Create Your Own Workshop option: Come to us with a group of 5-8 writing friends of any age, and we will custom-design a workshop for your group.
